Ophiuchus; 13th sign, Umpteenth time.
|
Every so often in this space, I address big questions. One regular is a variation on the following theme. "My husband/brother/teacher says astrology is rubbish because the earth has moved since the time of the ancient Greeks. So when you astrologers say Jupiter is in Aries, it's actually in the constellation of Pisces... as you can see if you look at the sky.' I always reply that the signs are deliberately different to the constellations. Today, in the light of all this nonsense about a new zodiac sign, I'd like to say a lot more... click here.

Age of Aquarius
|
Dear Jonathan,
You recently said the Age of Aquarius is slowly dawning. So when will it start? Robert
Dear Robert,
Have you ever stayed up late, waiting for the sunrise? It's a very gradual process. If you're hoping to see the Sun as proof that your new day has dawned, a lot will depend on your vantage point. It will take longer, if there are trees or hills to your east, than if you've got a clear flat horizon. 'Ages' last 2,160 years and take about 400 years to dawn. This dawn probably began roughly 350 years ago.

Time for Love
|
Happy Full Moon. That's partly a greeting, partly a prediction. It's also a refutation. People seem to think Full Moons are only about trouble. Vampires, witches, werewolves. Dramas and showdowns. Accidents and incidents. Moments of mayhem and madness. But Full Moon is also a time to explore. Before street lights, it allowed people to travel at night in a way they simply couldn't under a dark sky. Full Moons can be happy times. Times to celebrate, to hope and to unblock the pipes that often stop our hearts from overflowing with the love that they were designed to feel.

Only You
|
Dear Jonathan,
A friend told me that when you read your horoscope, it doesn't relate to anybody else, only you. Is that true? I ask because I fell in love with a man who shares my astrological sign. Now we have broken up he is flirting with a girl who is also the same sign. It irks me to read my horoscope. I feel I am reading it for all three of us. Regina
Dear Regina,
The only way to read a horoscope is to read it as if you are the only person I have written it for.

Diana: Loss of the Supremes
|
Dear Jonathan,
I have decided that astrology and all related topics (fate, destiny, karma etc) are rubbish. Until recently I was a believer. Now I'm not. I don't believe in a Supreme Being either. It's sad to lose faith in everything but I won't be any unhappier as a result. Diana
Dear Diana,
Is that because you are already so unhappy that if it got worse, you wouldn't notice? On behalf of fate, destiny, karma and the Supreme Being, I'd like to say we're sorry if we've done anything to offend you and we hope you feel better soon.

Your Week Ahead
|
This week's most exciting development has got to be the moment when Saturn turns 'stationary'. The planet of restriction, impediment and delay is beginning a phase of retrograde motion that is due to last till June. Retrograde motion may be an illusion, caused by the Earth's motion, relative to that of a distant planet but it has deep symbolic significance. And what does it mean? It means, er... restriction, impediment and delay. So if the planet of restriction, impediment and delay is subject to restriction, impediment and delay, we can all expect to start making a lot of progress!
