PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

September 5 2011 to September 11 2011

Monday September 5
Bullet Train Bulletin

Soon, I'll say more about Dr Masaru Emoto's theory involving the 'memory of water'. Meanwhile, a snapshot of my trip to Tokyo. I met Mayu Yuki, the lady who translates my words into Japanese. Afterwards, I discovered she was going home to Osaka - and as I was heading to Kyoto I offered to accompany her. She looked a little worried: 'Oh but I was planning to do tomorrow's translation on the train.' Then I remembered that I had forecasts to write too. So we set up office on the Bullet Train and hammered away at our laptops together!

Tuesday September 6
Rock Om

When I first heard that Kyoto had a famous Rock Garden, my imagination went to town. I envisaged a park filled with golden statues, carved to look like Ozzy Osbourne or Alice Cooper. In fact, it belongs to a Zen Buddhist Temple. It's a rectangle covered in gravel. Fifteen smallish rocks are laid out and viewing seats are arranged in steps. No matter where you sit, you cannot see all 15. Apparently, this can mean whatever you want it to mean. I took it as, 'Even when something is complete and perfect, right before you, it's not always obvious'.

Wednesday September 7
Data Day

Since my forecasts started appearing in so many different countries, I have been asked if people are getting the right prediction for the right time zone. After all, Wednesday in Sydney can start up to 17 hours earlier than Wednesday in Toronto. But my forecasts carefully take changing astrological factors into account. I have long maintained that Wednesday is Wednesday, wherever you are. Since I have been travelling so much lately, I've been testing this. Obviously, I'm not very objective. Nor can I be in two places at once. But as far as I can tell, it's working fine!

Thursday September 8
Down Under

Whenever I travel from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere, I am always amazed by the Moon. It is in the same zodiac sign at the same time, no matter where in the world you see it from. But an Australian coming to Europe sees the Moon 'upside down' and for me, in Sydney, this week, I'm observing that same strange phenomenon. Full Moons, of course, look the same. It's when the moon is shaped like a banana (or a bandana) that you really notice the difference. Over here, even the solar system, it seems, plays by Aussie rules!

Friday September 9
Old Age of Aquarius

This week in Australia, I've been catching up with fellow astrologers. Sydney is the home of Yasmin Boland, who used to sit in for me when I took a break from this page, until she became too successful in her own right! Terry MacKinnell is also a 'Sydneysider.' (Please note confident use of local lingo). He's been talking, to the Sydney Astrological Research Society about his new book, The Dawning. It challenges many of the old ideas about 'astrological ages' and argues that the Age of Aquarius is already here and started with the invention of the printing press.

Saturday September 10
Your Week Ahead

I've been thinking a lot, lately, about the Moon. We each formed our own relationship with it the moment we first saw it in the sky. It deepened when we realised how it follows us along when we're travelling. In astrology, the Moon symbolises your most private profound passions. We look to see where it was when you were born to reveal what you care most about. Yet it also governs 'the spirit of a community'. For the Moon, after all, is something we share. This week's Full Moon will bring many people a little closer to each other.
