Old Comet Tales
Here's an important announcement regarding comet, Elenin, due to come closest to the Sun on September 10. Neither will it collide with us nor will its tail put our communications systems out of action. Nor is it under 'intelligent control'. Nor has it caused - or will it cause - earthquakes. Nor is it the harbinger of another celestial body due to appear in October. There is no 'Brown Dwarf' or Planet X or 'Nibiru', capable of tilting the Earth's axis. Nor are the authorities hushing any of this up. I love the internet. But I do so tire of its rumours.

Tuesday August 30
An ancient cosmic law states wherever there is a ridiculous imbalance, an opposite inequity must exist. Here's an example. In 2002, ex-Royal Marine Steven Gough became a 'radical nudist' and hiked as nature made him, across Britain. Most local authorities turned a blind eye. But in Perth, Scotland, they gaoled him in 2008. He's been serving time ever since. Whenever they free him, he walks out naked and is locked back up. Last week, he got two more years. Just 60 miles away lies the prison where the authorities were seemingly happy to let the Lockerbie bomber go.

Lost in Translation
This week, I am back in the Land of the Rising Sun. I'm here to organise a new electronic horoscope service and to talk to my translators. I figure that if they get to know me we will all stand a better chance of keeping the meaning intact. Hey! Did someone just say 'what meaning?' Well, OK, I concede that sometimes, my predictions may appear to require a little thought before they can be properly understood, but there would be something very wrong if they turned out to be easier to make sense of in Japanese than in English!

Shadow of Peace
While visiting Japan, I went to the Peace Park in Hiroshima. I couldn't see to climb the museum steps for tears. Something so shocking took place there in 1945. There are no words. Nor are there ways to comprehend the death of 170,000 innocent people. I saw a stone step on which one person had been sitting in the sun until suddenly, nothing was left but a shadow. The shadow of that terrible event is still imprinted on the conscience of the modern world. We betray those victims whenever we speak of 'blame', 'fault', 'justified violence', or 'necessary war'.

Message in the Bottled Water
While in Tokyo, I was lucky enough to meet one of my heroes, Dr Masaru Emoto. His most famous book, Hidden Messages In Water, describes fascinating experiments, which appear to suggest that ordinary water has a 'memory' and even a 'consciousness'. Yes, I know it sounds far-fetched. But there's something about the way he explains this, that to me at least, makes it seem perfectly plausible. I asked him just a few of the nine million questions I have long yearned to put to him. In the next few days, I'll tell you more about what he said.

Your September Monthly Forecast
As September goes slowly by we get ever closer to a conjunction of Venus and Saturn. It takes place in the part of the sky that astrologers (though not necessarily all astronomers) call Libra. To us, it symbolises the potential for positive emotional unions and constructive business agreements. It speaks of deals being done and of promises being made (and kept). No matter what sign you are, if you're hoping to negotiate an arrangement, a commitment or a strong plan for the future, the climate is auspicious.
