At the 11th hour when my faith is running out, my hope is dwindling and my legs are about to give way. That's when all my miracles have occurred. We are living in austere times, but this year I've already seen miracles - 'against all possible odds' type of miracles. Lilian Dear Lilian, I agree with your interpretation of this number and date. Tuesday May 31 Henry XI Dear Jonathan, I presume that what people find special about 11.11.11 is the fact that it is all ones... except that it is isn't, because the full date is 11.11.2011! Strictly speaking, the perfectly unique date in our calendar, such that every digit is the same, is 11.11.1111. This happened almost 900 years ago. It's when Henry V was crowned Roman Emperor and even that's disputed. There are no famous births, deaths or other events listed under 11.11.1111. But in those days, not many people were even aware of the date. Maybe it will be different this time. But already this year, for many people the end of the world HAS come. Those affected by earthquakes, tornados and volcanic eruptions have lost their lives. Mary Dear Mary, I think we are half attracted to the idea of 'the end of the world' because it makes us feel better about knowing that we will all, sooner or later, reach the end of our own worlds. Ultimately, though, that's a reason to treasure each moment for the gift it truly is. Friday June 3 Sweet Charity Dear Jonathan, I work for a charity where referrals have plummeted. We've phoned around to see why and it seems people have internalised the belief that all possible sources of help have closed down. People are scared. I'm scared! When will this miserable period pass? Clare Dear Clare, Everywhere now, there's less money for needy causes. Even when there was more it was never enough. But thank you for saying there are still places of help and refuge. There always are, even in the toughest times. I predict that within a year, times will get a lot less tough.
