PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

New Comet
|
A new comet will be visible with the naked eye this week, early in the morning, just above the north-eastern horizon. Nobody knows yet, whether it will be faint or bright. Over the past few years, several such heavenly visitors have started out full of promise but have turned out to be a bit feeble. To have real astrological importance, a comet must make a mark, not just in the sky, but on the minds of millions. If McNaught C/2009R1 does turn out to be 'the one', I'll swiftly be able to tell you what it portends.

Cosmic cross
|
Dear Jonathan,
During a time of particular astrological interest, such as the upcoming 'Cosmic Cross,' is it fair to say that any chart cast is different before the event compared with after that event: When is the best time to have the chart prepared? Georgina
Dear Georgina, A modern astrologer draws a chart for your moment of birth and compares this to the imminent planetary picture. This year, I'm taking the 'Cosmic Cross' into account in every reading. It makes no difference when it is done other than that, the longer you leave it, the more you may miss.

Around the Houses
|
Dear Jonathan, I recently read that if one has Neptune in the eighth house of one's birth chart, that person 'will not have much profit through partnerships...' What say you to that? Antonio Dear Antonio, The 'eighth house' traditionally governs financial (not personal or emotional) partnerships. Neptune, since its discovery in 1846, has been associated with vulnerability to delusion. I can see how the astrologer has reached this conclusion, but it's a sweeping statement. Much depends on the 'condition' of Neptune. What alignments does it form to other planets? And there are several distinctly different ways to calculate 'houses'. Point of View
|
Hi Jonathan, Isn't the idea of a zodiac slightly ridiculous, when it was first applied on the basis of Earth being the centre of the universe? Barry
Dear Barry,
In 1543, when Copernicus suggested that Earth went around the Sun, he was not introducing a new idea but reviving a long-suppressed, ancient concept. Astrologers study the view from Earth, whilst fully acknowledging and accepting the mechanics of the solar system. It's no stranger than treating a soccer game as if it is 'on your TV' when you know that really, it is happening in South Africa.

Cover Up?
|
Dear Jonathan,
You are making me a nervous wreck. How is the world going to change? Why will my life be different? When exactly is the 'T-Square'? Surely the world changes every day anyway. I keep waiting for a phone call or knock on the door to say something awful has happened. Should I stay in bed and pull up the covers until the world ends? Sonja
Dear Sonja,
My goodness. I really did not mean to convey such a negative impression. I see nothing but good in all the changes that await us soon. Please don't worry.

Your Week Ahead
|
Some astrological events take place every few decades or, even, every few centuries. Others are hardy annuals. There's a solstice in June, for example, every year. It doesn't necessarily, though, always have the same effect. We all tend to feel energised when the Sun reaches its turning point along the horizon and many people notice their spirits lifting while it seemingly stays in the same place for three days. This year, though, all this is happening at the same time as a rare heavenly alignment. The impact is due to be greatly intensified. I predict a very exciting week.
