Here a wolf, there a wolf, everywhere a werewolf?
|
How was Hallowe'en for you? I spent it in the courtyard of a castle listening to haunting tales and watching paranormal demonstrations. I can't say I saw any ghosts - but then most folk were in fancy dress. An apparition could easily have mingled unnoticed with that crowd. Indeed, the whole city looked like the set of a horror film. Hopefully, the world has now got the macabre out of its system. But, 'til tonight's Full Moon has passed, if you know anyone who turns a bit funny at this time of the month, you'd best remain on 'werewolf watch'!

Around the Houses
|
Dear Jonathan,
Astrologers often mention the 'house' in which a planet is active. Sometimes they talk about the traditional meaning of the 1st house, 2nd house etc, including a discussion of what sign rules the house. Sometimes they mention the houses in regard to my personal horoscope, but the signs are different then. It's hard to know what I'm supposed to come away with. Thanks, Rachel
Dear Rachel, Maybe you're not supposed to understand. Maybe you're just supposed to say, 'Ah, that sounds complicated so it must be true.' Or maybe, tomorrow, I'd better attempt a more serious, if complicated, answer!

House of the Rising Sign
|
Astrological 'houses' are twelve sectors of the sky which 'house' different areas of your life. Firstly, there's 'your outward appearance', secondly, your financial potential. The third house covers your manoeuvrability, the fourth rules domesticity, the fifth, 'speculation'. Duty is covered by the sixth house, while 'big relationships' belong to the seventh. The eighth is 'what you take most seriously', the ninth describes your beliefs, the tenth, your 'power', the eleventh, your social sphere, and the twelfth, your dreams and 'escapes'. So how do we establish where your houses are and what they tell us? Tomorrow, I'll turn to that.

Signs of the Time
|
Earlier this week, Rachel asked why different astrologers gave her different 'houses'. In the kind of astrology you find on this page, we divide a sky map like a clock face. We put your regular sign at number 1. The next sign down is the 2nd, and the sign before is the 12th. Etc. In birth-chart astrology we do the same with your 'rising sign'. You can end up with two sets of 'houses' but an astrologer only reads one set at a time and the latter always takes preference. What's a 'rising sign'? Let's tackle that another time!

Serendipity Dooh Dah
|
Hello Jonathan, Is there a particular time of day when I should read my forecast? Ava
Dear Ava, I'm a great believer in serendipity. The time of day you stop to read your prediction will always naturally be the right time!
Hi Jonathan! Often your horoscopes seem to relate perfectly to a couple of different aspects of my life, whether these be work, emotional or physical situations. How do I determine which of these I'm supposed to apply your advice to? Pip
Dear Pip, See the previous answer. I think you just have to let your intuition guide you.

Your Week Ahead
|
The 'big story' in the sky now is Saturn's right angle to Pluto. Saturn takes nearly three decades to get once round the zodiac. Pluto takes several generations. That's why there are such long gaps between their alignments and why, when they do happen, they last for so long. This 'Saturn/Pluto square' will shape life for us all between now and the middle of next year. It's a bit of a sobering influence. It's likely to make many of us think some pretty profound thoughts. Yet it's also, probably, going to mean we start changing our expectations of life (and of each other) in a good way.
