A Date With Fate
|
Dear Jonathan,
If I can't read my forecast for some reason, does it still affect me?
Jennie
Dear Jennie,
If astrology only influenced people who had been
listening to astrologers, there'd be something wrong somewhere. We
are never 'forced by fate' to accept the situations that the heavens
are nudging us towards. We can always choose how we respond to life's
challenges and opportunities. We can make such choices with or
without advice, but I'd like to think that, in the predictions I
prepare each day, there's a way to understand the celestial climate
and work with it constructively.

By Jupiter
|
If you have a late night or you wake early, check if the sky is clear. You may see Jupiter low in the East, roughly where you'd expect the sunrise. Other planets are visible too, but Jupiter is most exciting because 'hiding' near it is Neptune, a planet so distant, we only discovered it in 1846. It can be spotted with binoculars now. You'd need more than binoculars to see Chiron, but this tiny asteroid is also in the vicinity, completing a symbolic 'triple conjunction'. The 'theme' of the alignment, and of the month, is a 'vision for healing'.

Lucky Dates
|
Dear Jonathan, Years ago I read in an astrology book that someone born with an 'afflicted position' in his chart could cause cruelty. The example they gave was Hitler, born on the cusp of Aries/Taurus. Several massacres happened on either April 19 or 20. Coincidence? W.H.
Dear W.H., An 'afflicted position' has a particular meaning involving Mars or Saturn forming a tense angle to another planet in the horoscope. This can happen at any time of year and has nothing to do with 'cusps'. There's really, I promise, no such thing as an 'unlucky date'.

A Healing Feeling
|
Amongst other things, the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and the asteroid Chiron signifies an opportunity to bring healing to the world. We should expect some encouraging announcements from the world of medical research soon. We may also see a shift in the conventional scientific community, towards the acceptance of diets and practices once dismissed as 'wacky' or even 'quacky'. 'Poor health' has a less literal interpretation too. The breakdown of trust between nations, between cultures, between voters and their elected representatives or even between banks can also be interpreted as a disease, in urgent need of a cure.

Nocebo Placebo Like Homecebo
|
Jupiter/Neptune conjunctions are all about chances to turn visions into realities. As the current conjunction also involves Chiron, the 'healing asteroid', I am fascinated by a recent article in a scientific publication, about 'Nocebos'. Placebo treatments help some people get better, just because they believe that they have taken strong medicine. Nocebos work in reverse. Even if there's nothing wrong... some of us get sick just because we believe we are going to become poorly! Researchers traditionally see such effects as annoying anomalies. It seems we're soon going to understand more about how to work with them constructively.

Your Week Ahead
|
Mercury is retracing its recent path, slipping further back through
the sky each day. Saturn, meanwhile, stands still. Or rather, from
where we stand, that's how it appears. Other planets now intensify
the difference between 'how things are' and 'how they appear'.
Neptune, planet of illusion, is in conjunction with Jupiter, planet
of amplification. That implies a 'big misconception'. This rare, once-
every-13-year conjunction also involves, this time, an asteroid
called Chiron, 'the Healer'. Harm that appears to be irreversible, or
damage that seems beyond repair can soon be put right.

Celebrity Sunday
|
This week, let's look at the birth chart of an amazing woman who, with typical Taurean tenacity, simply refuses to let go of her glamour. And why should she? Born on May 20, 1946, Cher has Venus, planet of talent and popularity, in Gemini, sign of eternal youth. Read the rest of this article...
