TUESDAY October 23 Busy time for Mercury Recently, I cited worldwide examples of 'retrograde Mercury'. Since then I have heard from Sharron in New York who says a long-running taxi drivers' dispute is due to get worse before Hallowe'en. 'Cushia' reminds me that, over in Auckland, waterfront workers have been striking. Sea ports come under Mercury's domain, every bit as much as broadcasting companies and railway stations. Nurses, though, are ruled by the Moon. Normally, I wouldn't see a connection, but this particular retrograde phase began on the New Moon, so Ingrid's suggestion of a link to the Melbourne nurses strike may be relevant too. Every year, my dear friends Ceri and Tina produce a beautiful Moon Calendar full of important astrological detail, presented as a true work of art. I'm delighted to announce that their new 2008 calendar is now available to order from anywhere in the world. Click here to take a look. |
WEDNESDAY October 24 Crossed wires It is not just strikes and setbacks that occur during a retrograde Mercury. Mix-ups and misunderstandings become more common, too. Yesterday, for example, I mentioned a taxi drivers' strike on Hallowe'en. This, I now realise, is scheduled for Washington. In New York, the taxi drivers are already striking! Meanwhile, I now know that it is not just Melbourne where there's a nurses' dispute. In Sacramento, California, in Finland and in Manchester, England, too, they're out as well. In Tokyo this week, broken barriers on the underground have led to long delays and in Turkey, telecom engineers have downed tools! |
THURSDAY October 25 Full moon time Most diaries or calendars will tell you that the Moon is full on Friday. That rather depends, though, on where in the world you are. On the American west coast it is full this (Thursday) evening. In Australia, it won't be full till late Friday afternoon. Wherever you are in the world, though, by Friday evening, it will be 'past full'. In astrology, it is the moment just before an event that has most potency. So, to all intents and purposes, tonight is the night of the full moon. If you've got a spell to weave, a curse to undo or a secret to reveal, you'd best get cracking. And if, at Full Moon, you have a tendency to sprout fangs or start howling... lock yourself up in the cellar. Please. *The Moon is Full, in Taurus, at 4.52 GMT, Friday, October 26 (Los Angeles: 9.52pm, tonight; Friday timings - New York: 00.52am; London: 5.52am; Madrid: 6.52am; New Delhi: 10.22am; Sydney and Melbourne: 1.52pm; Wellington: 4.52pm) |
FRIDAY October 26 How did you do that Comet 17p Holmes? An amazing comet is now dominating the night sky. It's not a new discovery. Comet 17p Holmes was first spotted in 1892. It comes around once every seven years and normally, is of interest only to keen stargazers with powerful binoculars. Almost overnight though, it has become a million times brighter. It truly is "like a diamond in the sky" - and even the great experts don't know what has caused this. To astrologers though, it is deeply significant. I'm still meditating on its meaning. If you've seen it, drop me a line. What did you feel when you caught sight of it? |
SATURDAY October 27 Mercury and Neptune change direction Mercury, this week, completes the phase of retrograde motion that it began back in early October. Neptune, too, 'changes direction.' It has been retrograde since late May. No matter what sign you are, this has an exciting implication for you if you're dreaming a big dream, nurturing a great hope or trying to strike an important deal. Where, of late, there has been a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, humming and hah-ing, waiting and wondering, there's soon going to be a time for sleeve-rolling, doubt-dropping and shoulder-to-the-wheeling! |
