PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
July 30th to August 5th 2007

MONDAY July 30
Are Aquarians more in tune with astrology?

Hi Jonathan,
I've often read that Aquarians are more in tune with Astrology than some other signs. What is the explanation?
Kari

Dear Kari,
I'm not sure there is an explanation... because I don't think there's anything to explain. I have colleagues born under each of the 12 signs and they are all equally talented, albeit that they have different approaches. Nor am I aware of a world shortage of stargazers born under a particular sign. But then again, there was a Full Moon in Aquarius last night... so perhaps today at least, the water bearers have the edge.

TUESDAY July 31
Retracing Venus's path

On Friday, I gave the dates during which Venus has been 'retrograde' lately. Really, I should have gone back one more year. Venus roughly follows an eight year cycle. Back in late July 1999, she did almost exactly what she is doing now; slipping slowly back out of Virgo into Leo before turning around in early September and heading 'forward' through the zodiac once more. Even when planetary patterns repeat, dramas on earth are never the same twice. But we may detect echoes and familiar motifs in our lives and on the 'world stage' over the next few months.

WEDNESDAY August 1
Venus's unfinished business

Venus is now repeating a pattern that she last described back in 1999. She follows an eight-year timetable and wavers very little from it. Last time round, though, her retrograde phase coincided with another celestial cycle: the endless dance of the Sun and Moon. A total solar eclipse took place. Lunar and solar eclipses will occur again this month and next. It is likely, that unfinished business from that time, may now demand that we give it some attention once more.

THURSDAY August 2
Getting connected

This was nearly an empty page today. I'm camping at the Big Green Gathering in Somerset, surrounded by astro-archaeologists, geomancers and other experts on the invisible but powerful 'ley lines' that link Britain's ancient sacred sites. Round here, there are plenty of those, but though my solar panels are fine and I've long since cleaned the Glastonbury mud from my laptop, it's the phone signals that have to be hunted down with a dowsing rod! Happily, I got one just in time to send out today's predictions. A precious, shortlived mobile 'data link' finally let me send the email.

FRIDAY August 3
You don't need a weatherman...

The Big Green Gathering nearly became 'The Big Brown'. We woke yesterday to a heavy downpour. I lay there listening to it, thinking about how, if it all got too bad, I could soon abandon my camping gear and go home. Then I thought about the many people whose houses have lately flooded. No such easy escape for them. No matter how bad it gets I am staying to give my talk on Sunday. The forecasters say it will be sunny then. Mind you, they didn't warn of the rain. I do get annoyed when I hear an unreliable prediction!

SATURDAY August 4
Venus and the Lunar Eclipse

August brings Venus out of the twilight and into the dawn. Briefly, as she changes her appearance time, there will be a few days when she is not visible at all. If you are watching very closely you will notice that Venus is retracing her steps through the zodiac, returning to the sector of the sky that she last occupied in early July. This bodes well for all who wish they could turn back time or, at least, stop the clock! We can all look forward to an inspiring month during which our hearts have at least as much chance of guiding us as our heads. The Lunar Eclipse at the end of the month also bodes well for all who now wish that they could live in a more comfortable and comforting world.
