August 8th to August 14th 2005
Eric writes: The debate about planet Xena will go on for a while. But what's beyond question is that we live in an age when exploring the cosmos seems normal. Does this makes any difference at all to a farmer in rural China, or for that matter, to someone on their way to work in London or Edinburgh? I'll look at that question tomorrow.

TUESDAY August 9 Astrology comment - Eric Francis, Guest Astrologer Jonathan is away. Your forecasts today are written by Eric Francis, creator of the excellent web magazine, PlanetWaves.net. Eric writes: Astrologers connect what's happening in a universe too big to really understand to what occurs in the sanctity of our hearts and minds. About once a day, somebody tells me this is the dumbest idea in the world. But nobody can deny the deep yearning for inner knowledge that's somehow associated with the stars. |
WEDNESDAY August 10 Modern Astrology in Newspapers comment - Eric Francis, Guest Astrologer Jonathan is away. Your forecasts today are written by Eric Francis, creator of the excellent web magazine, PlanetWaves.net. Eric writes: Modern astrology in newspapers is based on an ancient system of divination but it borrows heavily from psychology and spirituality - and common sense. Whatever people who 'don't believe in horoscopes' may say, it's always a pleasure to support a little island of caring and sanity in a world that seems to go madder every day. |
THURSDAY August 11 Mercury Retrograde in Leo - Eric Francis, Guest Astrologer Jonathan is away. Your forecasts today are written by Eric Francis, creator of the excellent web magazine, PlanetWaves.net. Eric writes: At times astrological aspects get on everyone's nerves. Until Saturday, Mercury is retrograde in Leo, also now forming a square to Mars in Taurus. Neither Taurus nor Leo are particularly flexible energies, so... mind your own stuff and try not working it out on others. It's okay to sidestep those who are not so devoted to peace. |
FRIDAY August 12 Mercury square to Mars comment - Eric Francis, Guest Astrologer Jonathan returns tomorrow. Your forecasts today are written by Eric Francis, creator of the excellent web magazine, PlanetWaves.net. Eric writes: While the approaching Mercury square to Mars may be irritating some people, this aspect also feels like a creative breakthrough. The energy can be entirely constructive. Rise above the fuss, particularly if it's in your own mind, be innovative, and turn that dross to gold. This is what I would call being an artist in real life. SATURDAY August 13 Xena comment Weekend Forecast: Back in the 1930s Walt Disney named Mickey Mouse's dog after a newly-discovered planet. A couple of weeks ago though, scientists found a new planet, bigger and more distant than Pluto... and named it after a fictional TV character. Xena, though, is a very real influence and she may yet prove to have a very apt name. Prepare for 'warrior princess' energy to sweep the world. |
SUNDAY August 14 Mercury comment Your Week Ahead: Mercury, the communication planet, stops moving backwards this week. That makes it an ideal time for 'setting the record straight'. Sometimes though, when we try to do this, we make the record seem rather warped. I, for example, would like to thank Eric Francis for sitting in during my recent brief break from the daily forecasts. I'd also like to tell you that I had a fine holiday. I can't yet say that, though. Publishing deadlines require this page to be written in advance. It's not a problem. Astrologers know where the planets are going to be next month, next year... or even next century so we can easily prepare long-range predictions. It does, though, mean that, rather like storybook time-travellers, we can sometimes forget where we actually are. If I want to acknowledge reality, I can't declare that, 'I have had a nice holiday'. I can only predict that, by the time you read this, I will have done!
