PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
July 12th to July 17th 2004
MONDAY July 12
Stressed and emotional email
Dear Jonathan I have been feeling stressed and emotional lately. My friends tell me that they, or people they know, feel the same. Is something in the sky causing this? CatherineDear Catherine, I am often asked questions like this, but I agree with Shakespeare's remark, in Julius Caesar: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars/But in ourselves." We live on a planet that endlessly creates disruptive influences. The other planets in the sky don't make things worse, they merely show us, through their alignments, ways in which we may be able to make things better.
TUESDAY July 13
Blue Moon email
Dear Jonathan, What effect will this month's 'blue moon' have on us? Thanks, BeckyDear Becky, We had a Full Moon on July 2 and we'll get another on July 31. That's bound to happen every so often because a lunar month is shorter than a solar month. It is a quirk of the calendar with no special significance and I am not inclined to call it a 'blue Moon'. That occurs when two consecutive new (or full) moons, fall in the SAME SIGN. In mid 2006, when the Moon is truly 'blue', I'll make a very big fuss.
WEDNESDAY July 14
Planets influence email
Hi Jonathan, Do the planets alter their influence according to where you are in the world? KateDear Jonathan, I was born in the southern hemisphere where the stars are different. Do your forecasts still apply? Anne Dear Kate and Anne, All over the globe, you can see the same planets, as they move through the signs, near to the horizon. Only objects higher in the sky alter. So your daily forecast remains the same wherever you are but different locations DO have an impact and astrology can help us understand this. I'll say more about that, soon.
THURSDAY July 15
Crop circles email
Dear Jonathan, Each year, the crop circles seem to get more impressive. What do you think they are trying to tell us? DaveDear Dave, I have learned to be careful with crop circles. I know a couple of West Country chaps who take a perverse pleasure in going out in the night and creating them! They proudly boast about the tricks they use to fool the experts. But then again, proof that it is possible to fake something very convincingly is absolutely NOT proof that there's no such thing as the 'real thing'.
FRIDAY July 16
Astrology in the school curriculum comment
Newton, Galileo, Kepler and other pioneering scientists were taught to cast horoscopes at an early age. Astrology was later dropped by most educational establishments but now people can study the ancient art once more as part of a university course examining cosmology and belief. Readers in the UK, with long memories may recall that in the eighties, Nicholas Campion wrote the predictions in the UK newspaper the Daily Mail. Next week, in Bath, Nick receives a PhD while six other students will get the world's first modern MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology. I predict we will yet get it back on the school curriculum.
