September 16th to September 21st 2002
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 17 Eric Francis Jonathan is on holiday and will be back next Monday. Each day this week, one of the world's finest astrologers will hold the fort for Jonathan. Today's guest writer is Eric Francis, a Seattle-based consulting astrologer who specialises in supporting professionals in the fine and performing arts. Eric has a passion for working with newly-discovered planets such as Chiron and Varuna. Newspaper horoscopes are written using some of the oldest concepts and rules known to astrology. They're less related to the reading of a natal chart and much closer to something older called 'horary', from back when our modern astrology was childhood cousins with magik and divination. While both scientists and 'serious astrologers' alike are often critical of sun sign horoscopes, they remain the most popular features in most newspapers, and are an effective advertisement for drawing new people into the profession. I leave you with a question: Why do many of the best sun-sign writers come from England? Is it a gift for the esoteric arts inherent in the culture, or is it, rather a gift for language? I say it's both. WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 18 Eric Francis Jonathan is on holiday and will be back next Monday with an extra close-up look at current world events. Today's guest writer is Yasmin Boland, Yasmin Boland is the guest astrologer today and tomorrow. She divides her time between sunny Sydney and London. A full-time writer, she's the author of Cosmic Love, a pocket-sized book about using astrology, feng shui, crystals and more to draw love to you. You can read Yasmin's stars in the new UK magazine Closer, and her daily Moon Meditation column on her website www.yasminboland.com Astrologers generally call the planet Uranus Ur-ahhhh-nus or Urin-us. Just because most people don't like being told what's happening to their Ur-ay-nus. It's not surprising that the planet Uranus has this effect on people. It's slightly shocking. Right now, Uranus planet of sudden reversals is itself in reverse. At least that's what it looks like from our vantage point down here. Mercury, which rules messages, phone calls, the mind and short journeys, is also currently in 'reverse', from our view point. Surprises and sudden turnarounds are more likely now. Situations could switch on a text message. Patience is in short supply, but if something seems too confusing for words right now, play it safe and wait a bit, if you can. THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19 Yasmin Boland Jonathan is on holiday and will be back next Monday with an extra close-up look at current world events. You can read Yasmin's stars in the new UK magazine Closer, and her daily Moon Meditation column on her website www.yasminboland.com The Moon is only two days away from being full. As she swells, the planet of love, Venus, is in sexy Scorpio, touching Neptune, the planet of dreams and illusions. Add to this the backward motion of Mercury, (communication), and you can see the problem. Emotions are swelling along with the Moon, there's anxiety and tension (including sexual) in the air as it is, despite a general undercurrent notion that proceeding with caution now might be wiser now. Work with the energies rather than against them. The challenges include learning to treat others as your equal and being honest with yourself and those around you. The Moon is already in Pisces, so the mood is softer. Be a little bit gentle, if you can. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20 Adam Smith plus Astronews Jonathan Cainer is away and returns on Monday. Today's guest writer is Adam Smith. Adam, 33, is a consultant astrologer based in London. He writes a horoscope column for Star, a BBC celebrity magazine. How does it all work? Is it fate or free will? These are questions astrologers get asked most working days, as if we had the answers. I have heard many gaudy theories as to why and how astrology works and I don't find any of them particularly compelling. My knowledge of astrology isn't based on blind faith, though: I am simply an empiricist. I look at the supposed effect of planetary influences at a given time and decide whether or not they apply to me. This seems to be the only honest way. He writes: My respected colleague MADALYN ASLAN is writing the predictions for your week ahead while I am on holiday. I am sure you will appreciate Madalyn's unique insights. Madalyn is a San Francisco-based astrologer. She is the author of the astrology book for children, What's Your Sign?: A Cosmic Guide for Young Astrologers (Penguin Putnam), and the forthcoming grown-up book, Madalyn Aslan's Jupiter Signs (Viking, 2003). Her column appears monthly at www.madalynaslan.com. The week begins with a Harvest Full Moon, time of your finest harvest. Is your cup half-empty, or half-full? What have you been longing for? What do you wish for? Look around you. Think back to the events of September 6. Do you now have the results you wanted? Let this week guide you to mouth-watering answers. It's never too late. A Match Made in Heaven? Sharon Osbourne (b. October 10, 1953) Libra and Ozzy Osbourne (b. December 3, 1948) Sagittarius For all the Osbourne's kooky eccentricity, Sharon and Ozzy are conservative at heart, in their love and with each other. There's too much Capricorn, Scorpio and Virgo behind Sharon's gentle Libra Sun and Ozzy's childlike Sadge Sun for them to take each other lightly and they don't. At this time, caring for each other is worrisome. But their love is endless, and will continue into eternity.
