Alexander Fleming (who died on this day back in 1955) was a true life-changer. On his return from vacation, when visiting his London laboratory, he spotted an area of fungus on a petri dish. Surprise! The dish, which was growing bacteria, was bacteria-free where the fungus was situated. And that was how he discovered penicillin!
